RESOLUTION
Sorting and other changes to the Standard report templates must be made using the Report Manager. Click here for more info on Report Manager.
You must be logged into the software with Internet Explorer to launch the Report Manager:

Launch Report Manager

Create a new report or select an existing report and click View Layout

Edit the Layout from the Preview window

From Report Designer, View > Windows > Field List

Right-click one of the pre-defined calculated fields and select Edit Calculated Fields

Select one of the fields from the Members list that is currently not used or needed and rename the field in the Design section on the right and click OK

Right-click the 'new' calculated field and select Edit Expression

Highlight everything in the Expression Editor and delete

Using the Fields, find the field required for sorting on the list and double-click the field add the field into Expression Editor and Click OK:

(for example, DueDate, and if the field is added as [vebcRptStatement.DueDate], remove everything but field name [DueDate])
Select the Details section and click the Properties > Sort Fields
GroupField properties, using the drop-down select the new field for Sorting and click OK
Save the report and preview to verify sorting correctly
